Connect your WhatsApp number
Custoz works with your own business number through Meta's official WhatsApp Cloud API. Here's what to get ready, where to paste it, and how to check messages are flowing.
Before you start
Setting up takes a few minutes once you have the right access in Meta. You'll need to be able to sign in to Meta's business tools with admin rights over your business.
What you need from Meta
- A Meta business portfolio for your company.
- A WhatsApp Business Account inside that portfolio, with your phone number added to it.
- A Meta app connected to the WhatsApp product, and that app's app ID and app secret.
- A permanent access token for a system user, with the whatsapp_business_messaging and whatsapp_business_management permissions.
- Your WhatsApp Business Account ID.
In Custoz
- A workspace you own or administer.
- The WhatsApp number screen, under Settings → WhatsApp number.
Four steps to a connected number
- 1
Add your token and account ID
Paste the system user token and your WhatsApp Business Account ID. Custoz uses them to list the phone numbers on that account.
- 2
Pick the number and add your app
Choose the number customers message, then add your Meta app ID and app secret. Saving checks that the token can read that number.
- 3
Set up the webhook
Custoz can point your Meta app's webhook at your workspace for you, and shows the address and verify token if you'd rather do it by hand.
- 4
Send a test message
Message your business number from your own phone. When it arrives, the status changes to receiving and you're live.
Good to know
If your webhook already goes somewhere else
If your Meta app already sends WhatsApp messages to another tool, Custoz tells you where they go and changes nothing until you confirm. That way an existing setup is never replaced by surprise.
Reading the status
- Connected: the token works and the number is saved.
- Receiving: Meta has reached your workspace, so customer messages will arrive.
- Error: one of the steps failed. The screen shows Meta's own message so you can see what to fix.
Your secrets stay with us
Your token and app secret are stored sealed, and are never shown again after you save them. The screen only tells you whether each one is set.
Number quality
Meta rates every business number. If Meta lowers your number's quality, Custoz pauses broadcasts that are still sending, and a red rating stops new ones starting until it recovers. Conversations with customers carry on as normal.
Common problems
Check that the token belongs to a system user with both WhatsApp permissions, and that the account ID is the WhatsApp Business Account ID, not your business portfolio ID.
